A picture here of my carved Walnut door panel with a few coats of clear varnish.

Walnut is my favorite wood to work with.
It has distinctive and strong grain patterns, yet does not splinter easily.
It works well, hard but not too hard, it can be machined and carved easily and cleanly and finishes very nicely.
Usually when I work with Walnut I like to scrape it to a finished surface rather than sand it. I like to do this with all woods if possible, mostly because I can’t stand sanding and prefer a non-mechanical means of working the wood, but Walnut is particularity enjoyable to finish this way.
Here is the interior door panel, (no carving), scraped and finished:

Looks like it is going to be another beautiful day here. Sun is shining and and they are calling for mid 50s. Leaves on the trees are starting to bud and there are no bugs yet… doesn’t get much better than this…
