Another 60 minute oil paint sketch.
A simple 60 minute sketch of a random face. Some work out better than others but hopefully I am learning something. https://www.johnhuismanart.com/

Decided to do a still life. My “portrait” sketches have been from random photos that I have taken or found on the internet. This one is just an old baseball that I set in front of me. Trying to get the feel for the shape as well as working with the colors. A baseball is … Read more
Another in the daily small oil painting sketch experiment series. This one is about 3″ wide by 4″ high and uses a pallet of Ivory Black, Titanium White, Yellow Ochre and Magenta. https://www.johnhuismanart.com/about
Working with only Yellow Ochre, Titanium White and Ivory Black. This one took about 60 minutes to complete. It is very small, 4×4.25 inches. Mostly these are using only a #2 bright medium stiffness bristle brush. https://www.johnhuismanart.com/
Working again with the same pallet, Raw Umber, Lemon Yellow, Ivory Black and Titanium White. This one measures 4.25×5.25 inches and took about an hour. Just trying to limit myself on time to keep it loose. I am not sure if that is working. We will see in time. Maybe. https://www.johnhuismanart.com/
Still a limited pallet, raw umber, lemon yellow, titanium white, ivory black. This one took about 50 minutes and measures about 3.75″ square. https://www.johnhuismanart.com/
Another quick small oil painting. This one is 4.5″ wide by 5″ tall using Burnt Umber, Black and titanium white. Took between 45 and 60 minutes to complete. https://www.johnhuismanart.com/about
I am going to try and learn how to use oil paints. I am going to try to do a small painting every day using limited pallets and try to stay away from tiny brushes. This one is 5″ X 6″ using only Burnt Umber, Ivory Black and Titanium white. Some of these will undoubtedly … Read more
I managed to attend another live session at Art Works in Eagan last Saturday. Again working in charcoal on Newsprint for the quicker sketches and then on 70lb for the final drawings, (I am not sure why, they are all just quick sketches really). It’s always fun to get to these sessions, it is something … Read more
I haven’t made many of these sessions in the last few months but I finally got to this one. I decided to go with charcoal because I have never really liked charcoal, (to messy?), so I have been thinking lately that it is something I should spend more time with. We start with about ten … Read more
