End of December 2024, (or beginning of 2025)

Sometime in the past month, I completed my 63rd trip around the sun. While these journeys have started to feel more routine and uneventful, they’ve also taken on a deeper meaning. I’m increasingly aware of how fortunate I’ve been to have 63 of them—and I find myself thinking more often about the limited number left to me.

As the new year starts, 2025 brings its own set of concerns. Then again, maybe they’re not so unique—what do I know? I’ve only been on this planet for 63 years. We can only work on what we can control. For me, that means my business https://huismanconcepts.com/ and my drawing https://john-huisman.com/

The business side of things is still enjoyable and provides the benefits of a day job (income). As for drawing, I suppose I’ve embraced it as a way to bring meaning to my life—or at least that’s what I tell myself.
I’ve never been one for resolutions or goals or anything like that. I’ll just keep getting up every day and trying to make the most of the life I have, for as long as I have it. That’s the plan.

I managed to attend a couple more live drawing sessions at the Hopkins Center for the Arts in December. Here are my drawings from those sessions. Both featured the same model, a great guy named Joe. Sometimes I feel like my work is improving; other times, I’m not so sure.

Also, I finished a delightful book  in the past week that I found to be a fun read with enough profound insight into the human condition to make it seem “heavy “.  It occurs to me that perhaps I struggle through heavier books trying to convince myself that I have the intellectual capacity for them when I should really be seeking out books to read simply for enjoyment.

I finished a watercolor painting in December as well.  This is 12x12 inches on Aquaboard by Ampersand. The Aquaboard is not completely smooth as advertised but it wasn't overly textured and it is very forgiving in that I can completely lift paint if needed.  Of course I am not happy with the piece but there are always lessons learned.

And so on we go into a new year. Should be fun.
