I am not sure what defines a "sketch" other than the fact that it appears in a sketch book instead of on a primed sheet of Masonite or canvas... Sometimes the "sketches" get a little more work and become things that I actually spend several days working on. Maybe "sketch" means something that is done relatively quickly. I don't know. Maybe it doesn't matter.
Anyway, this is a watercolor sketch of a scene that sat with me through the later part of the last summer. There is always something profoundly significant in seeing guys who are skilled at their trade working on a project. This was a large set of concrete stairs on a larger project we have been working on the past couple years.
I was trying to get colors right but I think I am a little muddy there, I obviously don't have a real good understanding of color yet but I keep trying.
To give the real credit where it is due I should mention the guys here are from Fuller Concrete in Lakeville and Rock Country Masonry in Ely. All great guys to work with.
Prior to making that watercolor, I did a couple sketches in pencil... I have a lot of photos to work from and I have a feeling we will be seeing more of these guys in the future:
